In 1999, Charlie Kushner approached Edward Jacobs with a special request. He had just transformed an industrial center into a thriving Jewish Day School. Part of the facility was dedicated as a synagogue for the lower/elementary school, and Mr. Kushner wanted to create a sanctuary design that would be both inspiring and appropriate for that age group. In discussing concepts, the two decided that an abstract mural surrounding the existing Aron/Ark, and based on a visualization of The Creation of the World, as depicted in Genesis, would be most appropriate. To that end, Jacobs created a 3-dimensional mural full of allusion and inference to many of the events described in the Biblical narration of Creation. Adding color and vibrancy to the entrance of the school, the work is both stimulating and inspiring not only to the children, but to all who enter the facility.
